Tic-tacs...

So, this afternoon as Hannah and I were on our way to pick up Nathan from school I got a piece of gum out of my purse. Hannah wanted one, but I didn't think that would be a good idea...

I figured a Tic-tac was relatively safe, if anything, she'd swallow it (unless she inhaled it or something).

Boy, was I wrong!

She happily enjoyed rolling it around in her mouth for several minutes...

Then, suddenly, she commented that she'd put it in her nose! I thought, surely she's just suggesting this, she wouldn't actually do it! And I couldn't tell looking in the rear view mirror...

So, when I stopped at the stoplight, I turned around and said, "Hannah, where is your candy?"

"In nose! Yook!" with a big smile and a pointing finger.

"You didn't put that in your nose, did you?!"

"yes, in nose!"

"Oh, Hannah!" (picturing a trip to the doctor and/or emergency room to get a tic-tac out of a tiny nose)

(An aside, did you know that wintergreen tic-tacs will make you sneeze if they're stuck up your nose?!)

A couple minutes later we arrived at Nathan's school. I put the van in park, turned around and asked her to tip her head back so I could look.

Sure enough, tic-tac "in nose"! And not just a little in, as far as she could poke that little finger. I could just barely see it...

Grabbed a kleenex (trying really hard not to laugh and scolding her anyway), asked to her blow, blow harder, blow harder, blow harder.

4 kleenexes and 12-15 hard blows and that tic-tac, miraculously, actually came out!

Oy! No more tic-tacs for this little one!

(Nathan's question of the day, "Would it have melted eventually if we'd left it there?")

So, moral of the story, toddlers get nothing that fits into a toilet paper roll because they might choke on it. AND nothing smaller than a jelly bean (unless you are watching closely), because they might stick it in their nose!

And I'm so glad I have a toddler!
